Gamescom is a couple of months away, and publishers are starting to make it clear whether they're participating or not. We know, for example, that Sony won't be present at the European expo at all, and neither will Activision Blizzard or Take Two. However, one company that has confirmed it will make an appearance is Ubisoft:
Yes, the French publisher has something lined up for Gamescom, taking place between 24th and 28th August. So, what games could possibly be put in the spotlight? Well, we know that Assassin's Creed is getting its very own digital event in September, so we can probably rule that out.
There are quite a few other possibilities, though. Skull & Bones has received a few age ratings, so it feels as though we're on the verge of learning a lot more about the multiplayer pirate title. Another game Ubisoft plans to release in the next nine months or so is Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora. A little further afield, we might learn more about Project Q ā a team battle arena title that leaked a while ago ā and, hey, maybe the publisher will even have something solid on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
Earlier in the year, a big report seemingly leaked a whole bunch of Ubisoft games in the works, like The Crew 3, a sequel to Immortals Fenyx Rising, a new 2D Prince of Persia, and more. While we're doubtful we'll be treated to absolutely everything at Gamescom, it does look like the publisher has a lot bubbling away right now.
What do you want to see from Ubisoft at Gamescom this year? Tell us in the comments section below.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is high on my list.
Would love a sequel to Immortals: Fenyx Rising too - the first game was brilliant.
T'would be grand if we saw some Avatar gameplay, preferably showing it to be a third person action game.
Everyone seems to hate Ubisoft games at the moment, but I keep buying and loving their games. Possibly because I've only played one 'Far Cry' (6) but I've loved all 3 modern Assassin's Creed titles and their giant worlds. Black Flag was a joy. Watchdogs was probably my first real next gen giddy feeling on my old fat PS4, where it felt like the future was here, even if all I was doing was 'pushing square' a lot š
I trust Ubisoft to make great open world's to explore and I avoid their live service and multiplayer games due to lack of interest. I've never paid for a cosmetic or stat upgrade in any of their single player titles, because it's so unnecessary, but all power to them if people do like that kind of thing š
Give me a new open world/universe to explore. Beyond good and evil or Avatar? I don't mind, both would be new to me, but I'd be down to try them out because it's Ubisoft.
cant stand Ubisoft clear games icons of a map rinse and repeat. its the worst kind of open world game design
Although i do like Avatar so i do have an interest to see what that is
Ubisoft is my least favorite publisher, but if they announced a new Rayman game or a remaster of the first one, they would be bumped up on my list.
bring on avatar and looking forward to all new stuff coming 3rd and 4th play through in the quarry wonder if ill see Bigfoot! you know im still looking for bigfoot in days gone š
@Ravix Soon you will develop your taste buds and hate Ubisoft like the rest of us.
Come on Ubisoft, show me that Ass...assin creed...
Yeah, I'll just leave through the back door..
@Bismarck I don't know, I skipped Watchdogs Legion because it just didn't interest me, so I'm not burning myself out on their releases.
@trev666 I never quite get this. The Witcher 3 has ? All over the map, Rockstar have icons all over the map, I never really analyse whether something is a fetch quest etc, I just immerse myself in the game world and story and do any quests that interest me
Maybe I'm just too positive and haven't been worn down by games yet š
BGE 2 would steal the show completely. I'm not loosing faith...
@Ravix
The scope and production value of Rockstar games compensate for their somewhat formulaic game design. They are the only people who do the term 'open world' justice.
Wither 3's story and world were created with the help of one of the most successful fantasy book series ever.
Ubisoft created a wonderful formula with games like AC3 and FC3, but immediately afterwards they got rid of their writers and just started producing the same thing over and over again. Without the great world of the Witcher and with only a fraction of the talent of Rockstar their games are the McDonalds of gaming. Even if you enjoyed AC Origins for example did you really enjoy the light and contrived story, goofy characters, obnoxious UI, grindy leveling system and that brain dead turn on Batman Vision and follow the map markers quest design?
Nowadays I can only stomach playing games like GOW Ragnarok. Anything less seems like a genuine waste of time and brain cells.
@Bismarck that is fair, I won't contest that they are formulaic, but it's a formula I'm still okay with for now. It's no way near as good as Rockstar's formula, but Rockstar put out one game every five to ten years it feels like š
I suppose in some ways I do play games to waste brain cells at times, but when something truly special comes along then it feels even more special, I guess. RDR2, Witcher 3, God of War(ish)
Ubisoft definitely can't touch the emotional storytelling of these games, but my god I still got some real pleasure out of climbing pyramids with shooting stars passing by in a vast desert, for example, and running around stunning
recreations of Egypt/Greece/Norway and England.
Have to mention I also really love history, and historical dramas, and you have to credit Ubisoft with actually letting you learn through their games. They don't skimp on the history, and put more in to that than maybe they do with storytelling, but not every game can be RDR2, just like not every TV show can be Breaking Bad.
Now if Ubisoft made a slightly more focused, non assassin's creed, emotionally driven historical drama but contained in a game that feels good to play, maybe they could achieve a really great game, but like The Last Duel in cinema, would people buy into it? Or would they end up shouting at the consumer, saying things like, you're all ***** now, all you want is superheroes and explosions. Unfortunately I don't think Ubisoft dares to risk changing a formula that sells, which is a shame.
@Ravix why would you assume everyone likes rockstar games and witcher 3
Ubisoft games sell just proves people want quantity not quality
Calling it now, the Avatar game will be nothing more than a reskinned Assassin's Creed game.
@RedAngel_Dragnet i very much expect your right
@trev666 I don't. You may have inferred that. I just wanted to delve into your point a bit. And your point was that they are the worst type of open world games because of map clearing, so
I mentioned 2 of the best open world games ever made, and suggested that the map clearing is a common feature of those too. Ghost of Tsushima also.
I kind of want to get a feel of which open world games you consider to not have map clearing. And therefore fall into what you call the worst type of open world. That's all, just genuine interest in discussing games.
I found, for example, once I'd done some side quests in God of War, and followed the story there was no reason to explore further. Nothing made me want to travel to Muspelheim for example. And I really enjoyed God of War, but I genuinely feel AC gives me a little more reason to go to every area of the map they have created, even if the games are not perfect and can drag out.
I'm so burnt out with Ubisoft games and their copy and paste open world formula and monetisation practices.
@tofuman86 what you said. My jaw would drop if any Beyond Good & Evil info was brought up.
Tying in Valhalla what if they showed a game where Thor was hiding out from some mysterious big mistake he made. He happens to hide out in the Greek isles. The Greek gods find out and the fights ensue, maybe even becoming the new God of War as theirs is conspicuously absent.
@Ravix the two of the best open world games ever made your referring to i assume are red dead redemption 2 and witcher 3 sorry but i disagree with that opinion i personally dont like either of them
N.i.c.e. more games.more better.word up son
I love Ubi, so I'm interested in this. Don't care if people hate their games or not, I really, really like them.
@trev666 okay, universally considered best, not necessarily my opinion for the sake of this discussion. But you are free to not like them, of course. But I still want to find out what you consider to be good in open world games? Or any examples of them, I'm genuinely just trying to have a conversation and it's only going one way š as I can't just guess which open world games you consider not to be "the worst type" in your opinion.
Ac1r is getting its own separate event isn't it?
Its already started leaking that this year is a remake of the 1st game, bang on cue with the remakes make more money, sod making anything new, attitude of the industry now. Ubisoft said the future of AC would be revealed in a new event.
I'm still loving Ubisoft's games so far, but it helps that I am taking breaks between some of them. I don't blame people for being burnt out though.
That aside, hoping to see updates on several titles! Prince of Persia remake, the Avatar game, Skulls & Bones, Immortals Fenyx Rising sequel.
Heck a new Rayman would be dope, and maybe finally some Splinter Cell news?
Iām in the small camp of people who really, really liked Immortals Fenyx Rising. I would be so down for a sequel with more Greek gods included. It could really be a great franchise, at least for me. Some of it felt repetitive but the combat was a lot of fun!
I would love to see another Watch Dogs game, but I think that ship has sailed now.
@Ravix While it's certainly true that UbiSoft should innovate their franchises somewhat, like you I never get bending the sticks completely the other way either. Although none of their games suck me in particularly, whenever I do pick up their games and play I do genuinely quite enjoy the times I spent in them. It feels like UbiSoft games are just convenient punching bags for some gamers to show that they have 'good tastes' but when you ask for what games they DO play, they always feel a little embarrassed.
@Elodin would be interesting to see a crossover between Valhalla, Oddysey or even Immportals:Fenyx with cameos of characters from each game
